Assemble the Bridge
Prep the parts
- Put the Y-axis pulley on the 62:1 snap motor to be used for the y axis. Tip: The position of the pulley on the motor shaft is critical; placing an M2 screw between the motor and the pulley while securing the set screw will ensure a suitable spacing. Loctite the set screw in place.
- Place the 10mm Bearings into the front and back plates.
- ensure the bearings on the opposite plates face outwards and in opposite directions
- Put the M2 Insert into the bridge bottom plate
- Put the M4 insert into the y axis ' y tensioner front plate '
- Place the 4mm Bearings into the ' y tensioner side plates '
- Place the 4mm Bearings into the pulley support plate on the side that will face the motor
- this placement is of vital importance. If the bearing is on the wrong side, the support shaft may fall out, damaging the motor
- Place the 6-32 Thermoplastic Inserts into the Bridge inner plates
- the inserts should be on different faces on the two plates
- Insert M2 inserts into the belt clamps that require them. There are three types of belt clamps - those with rounded rectangular through holes, small circular through holes, and larger circular holes for inserts. Only place inserts in the last type.
.
Make the ' Y Axis Tensioner '
- place a ' tensioner side plate ' onto the ' y axis tensioner front plate ' with the 4mm bearing facing towards the thermoplastic insert
- place a 4mm Shaft into the bearing
- place a Tensioner Pulley onto the shaft with the teeth aligned with the insert
- place the other ' tensioner side plate' onto the shaft and ' tensioner front plate ' with the bearing facing towards the pulley
Assemble the parts
- Screw the Y axis motor with pulley to the bridge back plate before assembling the remaining parts as shown.
- Attach the bridge inner plates to the bridge back plate before attaching the bottom bridge plate as shown.
- Attach the bottom bridge plate to the bridge back plate. (Bridge inner plates not shown for clarity.)
- Attach the Pulley support plate to the Left bridge inner plate
- Slide the 4mm Shaft into the bearing on the Pulley support plate
- Place a Shaft Collar onto the shaft in between the Bearing and the Y axis Pulley
- Attach the bridge front plates to the bridge inner plates
- Attach the bridge side plates to the bridge back and front plates
- Secure the Y axis tensioner to the right side of the bridge with a M4-Screw
- Screw four Bridge Belt Clamps (two with slots, two with small holes) to the Bridge bottom plate with M2-Screws.
Assemble the Carriage
- Prep the Parts
- Place the 10mm-Bearings into the Carriage side plates with the bearings in opposite faces on the two sides.
- Place the 6-32 Thermoplastic Insert into the Carriage Tool securing plate
- Place M2-Thermoplastic Inserts into the Carriage belt clamps (see Prep the parts section for the Bridge).
- Place the 10mm-Bearings into the Carriage side plates with the bearings in opposite faces on the two sides.
- Assemble the Parts
- Attach the Carriage side plates to the Carriage bottom plate.
- Attach the Carriage Belt plate to the Carriage side plates. Note: You may find it easier to skip ahead a few steps and attach the Carriage belt clamps to the Carriage belt plate before continuing with this step.
- Attach the Carriage tool securing plate to the Carriage top plate
- Attach the Carriage front plate to the Carriage side and bottom plates, taking care to ensure that the nuts do not protrude from the Carriage front plate as these can interfere with the Disposition Tool.
- Attach the Carriage top plate to the Carriage side and front plates
- Attach the Carriage belt clamps to the Carriage belt plate with m2 Screws
- Attach the Carriage side plates to the Carriage bottom plate.
Assemble the Sections
- Place the 300mm long 10mm shafts through the carriage
- Place the Bridge top pillow blocks onto the upper shaft
- Place the Bridge bottom pillow blocks onto the lower shaft
- Lightly secure the Bridge bottom pillow blocks and Bridge top pillow blocks to one of the Bridge inner plates. You may have to loosen the screws securing the Bridge inner plates to allow the shafts to fit into place. Do not try to force the shafts into place.
- Lightly secure the other side together
- Slide the carriage towards one of the sides, leaving enough room to access the screws on the pillow blocks
- tightly secure the blocks on that side
- Slide the carriage towards the other side and tightly secure the pillow blocks
- Slide the two [10 (-.005/-.014) mm Dia, 375mm Long Shafts] through the 10 mm bearings in the bridge and place the X axis pillow blocks onto the X axis shafts
