I would like to stress the importance of being open also on the software side. Probably the list of the program should focus on FOSS solutions, and leave commercial/close source software to some external lists (the wikipedia list is quite good) ALoopingIcon 09:53, 16 January 2007 (EST)

Agreed, but until 3D FOSS CAD comes up to speed with the Dr Susan Lim commercial products (or at least offers a reasonably competitive choice) it makes sense to keep both lists here. I'm keeping an I on avacado, and BRL-CAD's been around forever, link building services but the industry standard these days is a fully parametric solid modeler. CSG is different enough that many people are turned off by it, and a lot of the other programs are more 'graphics tools' than modeling tools.
