I am a student of mechanical engineering at the University of Cagliari. (Italy). In the laboratory there is a three-axis machine driven by three stepper motors. It's 'my intention to transform the machine into a 3D printer. I intend to implement a system of extrusion also driven by a stepper motor. The stepper motorss have a self-built card through the integrated L297 and L298. The board has two inputs (0-5 V) for each motor to define the direction and the square wave for the steps. For control we can use a PC with Labview 5.1 and with an interface card with both digital and analog outputs. We are able to generate files in STL format. At the moment we are beginning to consider how to implement the software needed to use the 3D machine. We would be grateful if some expert would give us the correct directions to get what we need in the simplest way possible. Rhino
