Tightening the Belt drives
- loosen system using the M4 screws on the tensioners - see image.
- Loosen the x idlers until the x axis can slide freely
- loosen y axis idler
- loosen z axis idler
- y axis
- with the x axis loose, slide carriage away from motor to tighten the belt between the motor and carriage
- tighten y axis idler until taught.
- move x axis back and forth to ensure that the bridge is not bending under the strain.
- X axis
- pull x axis to back of machine, ensure axis is aligned.
- if the bridge is warped this may not be perfectly flush
- pull on the bridge until the belt is taught between the bridge and the drive shaft.
- retighten idler block on both sides
- pull x axis to back of machine, ensure axis is aligned.
- Z axis
- slide z table away from motor until belt is taught between table and motor
- tighten idler until belt wraps around drive pulley.
If there still too much backlash, you will need to check the set screws on the pulleys and shaft couplers on the corresponding axis.
