Updating firmware

I am brand new to fab@home and have constructed a model 1 printer. I am trying to set up the software and ran into the problem of needing to update the firmware on my microcontroller. I don't have the right cables and the one I would need is $200. Does anyone have any tips on how I can get my microcontroller working? I am willing to pay someone to set up my microcontroller for me. I can ship it both ways if you can do the setup and install.
