'Jogging' Motors

I find with my Model 2 that if I use the up/down arrow 'jog' buttons to move my x axis, it doesn't always move on every button press. If I type a co-ordinate and hit 'move', however, then the motion is smooth, and the axis moves the amount it should. Just a limitation of the motors, or a fault I can fix?
