Future hardware revisions.

Hi,

As we move forward with the launch of the model 2.0, I think we should discuss how we will handle future improvements and refinements to the hardware. Developing and distributing new hardware versions is capital and labor intensive, and should not be done lightly.

I think each part of the printer should have a separate version and milestones and be tracked as separate developments. For instance we could have Chassis 2.0, 2.1, etc and Displacement tool v2.0, 2.1, etc. these would be developed and released at different times. a Model 2 would simply be an assembly of any version 2.X components. This would differ significantly from the Makerbot method where every batch has a unique combination of chassis, tools and electronics.

As we move forward we should view Chassis, electronics, tools and software in separate threads developed under the Fab@Home project.

Hi Jeff,

I suggest to use a metal track-laying (?) instead of rubber belt for the Z motion : our Z slips from time to time, probably due to unperfect parallelism of the axes (probably due to a slight bending of the plexiglass at the bottom of the chassis). This challenges precise positionning (< 500 µm) of the syringe. We have to help the carrier by hand.

Thx

Bertrand

I think there practical experiences may help more than anything else and o would say that hardware must be checked
time to time to check the exact working,
harris

God bless you for ever.
